The Context
More and more organisations are embracing “open” innovation. This move might be through changes to R&D facilities from major physical sites to dispersed virtual networks, through to outsourcing/ in-sourcing of new product or service development, through to greater collaboration and co-creation with customers, or through encouragement of greater “intrapreneurship” from employees.
In September 2011 The Work Foundation launched its major new national initiative, the Big Innovation Centre. A key area of focus for the Centre is how the UK develops a strategy for open innovation. Building on the work being undertaken by the Big Innovation Centre and decades of experience in supporting organisations to develop robust, resilient and innovation organisation, we are building a new employer-led research programme to examine the effectiveness of innovation ecosystems within organisations.
This roundtable discussion will focus on two key questions which form the basis of this new research:
- How is the shift to open innovation affecting organisations’ ability to manage people effectively?
- What strategies do organisations need to adopt to successfully manage people in an open innovation era?
This event will bring together a forward thinking group of business leaders from our network to discuss how innovation is being led and managed within organisations. We are looking for lively debate to provide insight to the attendees on best practice, and to inform our cutting edge research programme.
Please note this event is by invitation only. For more information contact Alice Holland aholland@theworkfoundation.com
